In the movie, Mitch Barnes (played by Robert Pattinson) has achieved nothing on Earth. Out of desperation, he joins an interstellar colonization program and takes on the role of a "consumable." Thus, he embarks on a high-risk job where he repeatedly dies and is reborn, living the life of a "space drudge" with endless arduous tasks.

During one of his missions, Mitch, designated as Number 17, narrowly escapes from a dangerous task. However, upon returning home, he discovers that he has been replaced by Mitch Number 18. This sets the stage for a hilarious and absurd sci-fi adventure black comedy. The film is adapted from the science fiction novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton.
